The custom, hand-made leather martingale collar you get from Mad Fox Designs is guaranteed to be of the highest quality possible. I start with 8 - 10 oz (roughly 1/8 inch thick) vegetable tanned leather, with as clear grain as I can find. The leather is marked and cut by hand based on a pattern drafted to your measurements, and then, for colored collars, is dyed to the color you choose. At this point I create your own personal, one of a kind design to be stitched or burned into the leather. When the dye dries, the outer layer is marked with the design and it is then stitched and/or burned in. The outside piece of leather, where the design is stitched, and the inside piece around which the lining is wrapped are stitched together using a quality artificial sinew. The hardware of your choice is attached to the ends of the main part of the collar. This high stress point of the leather is reinforced with 600lb strength polypropolene webbing. And then the control loop of the collar is put through and finished up with the d-ring. All contruction points are first glued and then triple stitched in three rows parallel to the stress on the leather to prevent "postage stamping," or tearing out. Your collar is then oiled until it will take no more oil. This helps to maintain the leather's flexibility and makes it more resistant to water and damage caused by water. Your collar is then ready to be shipped!
